What Is GS1 DataBar Stacked?
GS1 DataBar Stacked is DataBar Omnidirectional folded in half: the 96-module symbol is split into two 50-module rows stacked with a one-module separator, halving the width to 50 modules. It carries the same 13 data digits plus Mod 10 check digit and preserves omnidirectional POS scannability in a roughly square footprint.
That shape is tuned for the stickers on loose produce — apples, avocados, tomatoes — where a long EAN-13-style symbol has no room but a compact square fits. Produce PLU stickers traditionally carried a four- or five-digit lookup number; DataBar Stacked lets them carry the full GTIN plus (in the Expanded Stacked variant) weight and origin data, enabling item-level scanning at checkout.

DataBar Stacked vs Stacked Omnidirectional vs Expanded Stacked — what is the difference?
DataBar Stacked is the plain two-row GTIN-only symbol described here (officially "DataBar Stacked Omnidirectional" when height meets the full 13-module rows). Expanded Stacked is the same folding applied to variable-length Expanded data. In GS1's current naming, "DataBar Stacked" generally implies the omnidirectional-height version for POS use.
Can a produce sticker carry a DataBar Stacked?
Yes — that is its flagship application. At 0.25 mm X the symbol is about 13×7 mm plus margins, fitting standard produce sticker sizes. Some retailers now scan GTINs from stickers instead of keying PLU codes, and GS1's produce guidance promotes exactly this path.
