What barcode format does Shopify use?
Shopify accepts any barcode format in its inventory barcode field, but for POS scanning and retail compatibility, UPC-A (12 digits) and EAN-13 (13 digits) are the standard choices. Code 128 is widely used for internal SKU labels. Shopify's own Retail Barcode Labels app can print all of these formats.
Do I need a GS1 barcode to sell on Shopify?
Not necessarily. If you're only selling through your own Shopify store, you can create internal barcodes using any format (Code 128 is popular).
